Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested on March 23 by the court to which he was referred as part of a corruption investigation into the İBB. Following Ekrem İmamoğlu's arrest, demonstrations continue to be held in many cities. Many university students have been arrested during the protests.

Famous figures have begun calling on social media for the release of the university students. One of these names was Demet Evgar, the star of the hit series Bahar.

Demet Evgar made a post saying, 'How can it be a holiday for us while children are in prison?' The famous actress later stated, 'Our minds and our conscience do not accept that our young people, who were detained and arrested solely for exercising their constitutional rights, are being kept away from their families unjustly during the holiday.'
