WHO IS TARKAN?

Tarkan Tevetoğlu, or by his stage name Tarkan (born October 17, 1972), is a Turkish singer-songwriter.

Since the early 1990s, he has achieved recognition in Turkey and worldwide through his consistent chart and sales successes in Turkish pop music.

Tarkan was born and raised in the town of Alzey in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of West Germany. He came to Turkey with his family in 1986, and as a result of his interest in music that began in his childhood, he started receiving his first music education in Karamürsel, where he began his high school life.

In the following years, he met Mehmet Söğütoğlu, the owner of the Istanbul Plak company, and signed an album deal with the company.

Tarkan released his first studio album, Yine Sensiz, in the final months of 1992 and made his breakthrough with the song "Kıl Oldum" from the album. He achieved commercial success with his second studio album, Aacayipsin, released in 1994, and his third studio album, Ölürüm Sana, released in 1998.

The single "Şımarık" from the Ölürüm Sana album entered the national charts of many countries.

He signed a deal with Universal Music Group in 1998. His compilation album Tarkan, released in 1999, earned platinum and gold certifications from various countries. He filmed music videos for the songs "Kuzu Kuzu," "Hüp," and "Verme" from his fourth studio album, Karma, which he released in 2001.

He achieved commercial success again with the Dudu album, which was released two years later, and entered some European charts with his first English album, Come Closer, in 2006. "Bounce" and "Start the Fire" were the singles released from the album.

A year later, Tarkan released his sixth studio album, Metamorfoz. The lyrics of the songs on the album were praised by the Turkish Language Association. In 2010, his seventh studio album, Adımı Kalbine Yaz, met with listeners and became the best-selling album of the year in Turkey.

In 2016, Tarkan released his Turkish Art Music album, Ahde Vefa. Tarkan Tevetoğlu, who became a father in 2018, was deemed worthy of the "Father of the Year Award" in 2019 at an awards ceremony organized by OnurAkayMedya, based on votes cast by disabled individuals across Turkey. This award received by the famous artist was discussed in the tabloid press for a long time.

In addition to his musical projects, Tarkan, who also takes part in various social responsibility projects, is referred to as the "Megastar" by the Turkish press and the "Prince of Pop" and "Prince of the Bosphorus" by the world press. He has sold over 15 million albums to date.
