That mosque in Sivas finally gets its minaret after 38 years

A mosque was built in the village of Eskiçubuk in the Gemerek district of Sivas in 1986. Due to financial difficulties, a minaret could not be built for the mosque at that time.

There was a desire to add a minaret to the mosque, which had been without one for 38 years.

When a disagreement arose regarding the minaret that the villagers wanted to build together, philanthropists Bilal and Ayfer Koç undertook the construction. The mosque, which at one point resembled a house when viewed from the outside, has finally received its minaret after 38 years.

'THERE WAS A DISAGREEMENT WITH THE NEIGHBORS'

Stating that the villagers wanted to come together to build the minaret but that a disagreement arose, Bilal Koç said, "There was a disagreement with the neighbors, so we stepped in. We became the means for the mosque's minaret to be built. There had been no minaret at the mosque since 1986. My wife and I agreed, and we built it."

'IT LOOKED LIKE A HOUSE FROM THE OUTSIDE'

Ayfer Koç, who spent her childhood in the village of Eskiçubuk, said, "The mosque had been built, but it had no minaret. We were saddened as we came and went. My husband and I decided on it; we wanted it to be a surprise. When viewed from the outside, it looked like a house. It wasn't clear that it was a mosque. Now it's better; at least it has a minaret now."
