That song angered AKP members: Administrative investigation into Kaan Tangöze's concert

Duman band lead singer Kaan Tangöze held a concert on Wednesday, November 19, as part of the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Yunus Emre Congress. Tangöze, known for his opposition stance, sang a song during the concert that included the lyrics: "Axes in our hands, zoning permits in our pockets. We go to the forest, hey to the forest... Ministers by our side, the president in front of us. We go to the forest, hey to the forest..."

AKP members reacted to Tangöze taking the stage and to this song.

Following the concert, a statement was issued by the university administration. Sütçü İmam University emphasized that the event was not part of their own planning, that the concert hall was rented to an outside company, and that they had no knowledge of Kaan Tangöze's stage program. The administration also announced that an administrative review and investigation process has been initiated regarding the allegations.

The statement issued by the university included the following:

'The statements made by some circles regarding the concert held at the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Yunus Emre Congress Center distort the facts and have turned into an unfair smear campaign targeting our University. Therefore, we have a duty to inform the public clearly and explicitly. The text in question contains purposeful, baseless, and extremely irresponsible expressions that target our University, openly accuse our administrators, and are aimed at creating a perception in the public eye. This text has ceased to be a union statement and has turned into an effort to discredit our University.

It is an unacceptable, malicious attitude to try to hold our University responsible for the content of a concert event where the university only rented out the hall as a commercial activity upon the request of an organization company for a fee, where the tickets for the event were sold by this company, and where the University only allocated the hall and had no other involvement, and to present this with ugly accusations such as "inciting," "disrupting social order," "creating a conflict environment," or "conscious negligence." These discourses are clear examples of speculation and perception engineering. Furthermore, no administrator from our University was present at the program in question, and the event was definitely not featured on our University's social media or homepage announcement channels. All of these are evidence that the event was not within the scope of our University. These words used in the statement are heavy accusations that aim to target a public institution, are intentionally distorted, and carry the intent to mislead the public. These discourses have far exceeded the limits of criticism; they have gained the character of an organized attack directly against our institution and our administrators. All accusatory expressions made against our Rector and University administrators are clearly slander and manipulation. The owners of these expressions and allegations, which damage personal rights, target public officials, and aim to provoke the institution, must bear the responsibility for what they say. Our institution administrators who are being accused are people who carry their professional honor to the end and have been involved in activities and duties for the benefit of their country and nation with their scientific studies spanning many years.

It is very surprising, sad, and meaningful that managers at the head of such large non-governmental organizations on the scale of our country use expressions with content that is absolutely unacceptable without any effort to research, ask, or understand the truth. Why did this non-governmental organization, which claims to be sensitive, not react during this time and why did it not warn anyone about this, even though the organization company that invited the music group in question to the city hung advertising posters in various parts of the city and announced this days in advance?

The people of Kahramanmaraş and the members of our University have the discernment to know very well who is trying to stir up society and who is hoping for provocation. Those who try to make the peace of this university a material for the personal futures of some people will not be allowed to pass.

Our Rectorate has taken note of this statement, which targets our institution and administrators and aims to create public outrage, and reserves the right to make all necessary legal evaluations. An administrative review/investigation process has also been immediately initiated regarding the allegations in question.

Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University is a deep-rooted and respected institution that cannot be made material for the political calculations of any person, group, or union. It is clear that this aggressive language targeting our University is aimed at creating unrest in the city, discrediting our institution, and inciting the public. However, it should be known that the KSU administration does not bow to any pressure, does not remain silent to any smear campaign, and does not allow any operational language.

Our University is strictly committed to its national and spiritual values; it is against all kinds of words, attitudes, and behaviors that contain insults to any of our state elders, especially our President, and will not compromise this stance from now on, just as it has done until today.

KSU is a value that grows with its city, its students, and its employees. This value is too strong to be overshadowed by any manipulation. We once again express that we stand against all kinds of smear attempts against our University and that the perception that is intended to be created with unrealistic allegations will find no response in the eyes of the public.'
