97-year-old Atlı Köşk at Sabancı Museum put up for sale via foreclosure
A 1/48 share of the 97-year-old Atlı Köşk, located at the Sabancı Museum in Sarıyer, has been put up for sale via foreclosure for 62 million 500 thousand Turkish Liras. It has been learned that the reason for the sale of the Atlı Köşk is the debts of Sevilay Sabancı Çınar, who was born from an extramarital affair and later became a legal heir to the Sabancı family estate.

Located in Emirgan, Sarıyer, the Atlı Köşk was built in 1927 by the Italian architect Edouard De Nari. The mansion, which was used as a summer residence by the Egyptian Khedive family for many years, served briefly as the Montenegrin Embassy.
In 1950, the historic mansion was purchased by Hacı Ömer Sabancı, and in the same year, an 1864 horse statue by the French sculptor Louis Doumas was placed in its garden.
The mansion began to be called 'Atlı Köşk' (Horse Mansion) due to the horse statue placed there. Sakıp Sabancı, who began living in the historic mansion in 1966, allocated it to Sabancı University in 1998 to be converted into a museum, along with his calligraphy and painting collection and the items inside the historic mansion.
While the historic mansion, to which a gallery was added, opened to visitors in 2002, its exhibition areas were expanded in 2005, reaching international technical standards.
SOLD VIA FORECLOSURE
According to allegations, a decision was made to sell the Atlı Köşk, which is located within the Sakıp Sabancı Museum owned by Sabancı Holding, via foreclosure. A value of 62 million 500 thousand Turkish Liras was appraised for the 1/48 share of the Atlı Köşk, which was partially put up for sale by the Istanbul Real Estate Sales Enforcement Office under instruction file 2023/602.
The historic mansion with a Bosphorus view is recorded as 14 thousand 35 square meters in the land registry. The mansion, which is stated to be located on plot 92, parcel 3 in the Mirgün neighborhood in the land registry, has been placed in the sales announcement.
While the first bidding period for the sale of the Atlı Köşk was set for July 24-July 31, it was learned that if the mansion is not sold in the first round, the second bidding period will take place between August 21 and August 28.
According to the 62 million 500 thousand Turkish Liras value appraised by the Istanbul Real Estate Sales Enforcement Office for the 1/48 share of the mansion, the total value of the mansion appears to be 3 billion Turkish Liras.
SEVİLAY SABANCI ÇINAR'S SHARE IS FOR SALE
It has been learned that the debt causing the sale of the 1/48 share of the historic mansion belongs to Sevilay Sabancı Çınar, who is a co-owner of the mansion. Sevilay Sabancı Çınar, the daughter born from an illicit affair of İhsan Sabancı—the son of the late businessman Sakıp Sabancı's brother Hacı Ömer Sabancı—had filed 8 separate lawsuits demanding a share of the inheritance.
A decision was reached in the lawsuit regarding the share demanded by Sevilay Sabancı Çınar, who was born from the extramarital affair of İhsan Sabancı, who passed away 40 years ago, with Nevin Tenik, from the estate of her grandfather, the late businessman Hacı Ömer Sabancı.
It was confirmed that Sevilay Sabancı Çınar is an heir to Hacı Ömer Sabancı, the founder of Sabancı Holding.
