'Time to Love', the first film in the history of Turkish cinema to receive an international award (the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival), has been restored in 4K quality on the 10th anniversary of director Metin Erksan's passing.
The truth about the title of the film, which has been frequently shared on social media platforms and returned to the agenda following the line, "It is a matter between your picture and me, it does not concern you. I am in love with your picture," has emerged 59 years later.
'THE FILM WAS GOING TO BE CALLED PASSION BUT...'
Arif Hür from 12punto stated, "Director Metin Erksan, who passed away in 2012, actually wanted to name the film 'Time to Love', which is among the classics of Turkish cinema, 'Passion'. At the time, the name 'Passion' was not preferred because it was far from being a commercial title.
It was given the name 'Time to Love' to appeal to citizens and mass media. I came across this information, which had never been brought up before, in Erksan's personal archive."
'A STORY TAKEN FROM REAL LIFE'
In an interview he gave in the 1970s, Erksan stated that the story of the film 'Time to Love' was real and used the following expressions:
"I strive to reveal our loves, our efforts, and our sorrows with an original and realistic narrative. The love story that is the subject of Time to Love is taken from real life. It is not fiction. It is just that we see such scenes very rarely in daily life..."
WHAT IS THE PLOT OF TIME TO LOVE?
Halil (Müşfik Kenter) works as a painter on an island with his master Mustafa (Fadıl Garan). Halil has fallen in love with a woman's portrait hanging on the wall on the upper floor of one of the empty mansions they are painting. He enters the mansion every day and watches the picture.
Meral (Sema Özcan), the woman in the picture and the daughter of the mansion's owner, comes to the mansion one day with two friends and sees Halil watching her picture. Believing that Halil is in love with her, Meral reciprocates this love. However, Halil is not in love with Meral, but with her picture.
