TikTok influencer killed during live stream
Valeria Marquez, known for her makeup tutorial videos on the social media platform TikTok in Mexico, lost her life in an armed attack while she was live streaming.

Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old known for her makeup tutorial videos on the social media platform TikTok in Mexico, was subjected to an armed attack while live streaming. Marquez lost her life as a result of the attack carried out at the beauty salon where she worked in the city of Zapopan. The Jalisco State Attorney General's Office announced that an investigation has been launched into Marquez's death.
During the live stream Marquez was conducting, the attack occurs after someone is heard in the background warning Marquez that people are approaching. Following the attack, while the live stream was still ongoing, an individual picked up the phone and ended the broadcast.
Marquez, who had approximately 200 thousand followers on Instagram and TikTok, had stated earlier in the live stream that while she was not at her workplace, an "expensive gift" had arrived for her to be delivered, and that she did not plan to wait for the person in question to return.
According to the latest data from the United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mexico ranked as the country with the fourth-highest femicide rate in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2023, with 1.3 deaths per 100 thousand women.
