As part of the operations carried out against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, many individuals, including IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were detained. While thousands of young people participated in protests to react to the detention decision, some were arrested.
In a message shared on her social media account, Şoray expressed her support for the young people who were arrested during the protests held against the detention of IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
"ATATÜRK ENTRUSTED THIS HOMELAND TO THEM"
Sharing a post on her social media account, Şoray supported the arrested students. In her statement, Şoray used the following expressions:
"Love is effort. Just like listening to our youth, understanding them, and finding solutions to their future anxieties... We can only reach beautiful days by understanding each other, loving each other, and establishing empathy. Our youth are still in detention. I am a mother, and I am experiencing the sorrow of this.
Why are our youth in detention? The fact that young people who want to exercise their democratic rights are spending the holiday behind iron bars should be the greatest wound for all of us. They are our children, the apples of our eyes, and the future of our country. Atatürk entrusted this homeland to them. Our youth must regain their freedom as soon as possible. As an artist, I understand my young colleagues very well.
"A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY IS OUR INDISPENSABLE NECESSITY"
An artist asks questions... questions things... It is in their nature to criticize everything and want better. They take responsibility to carry their countries to a bright future and hold a mirror to society. Art and the artist should not be silenced. We all actually want the same thing. A more beautiful, more livable homeland. For this, freedom of thought and expression must be our sine qua non. A democratic country is our indispensable necessity. We must not forget that we are all parts of a whole and that we have one single homeland. We are people who love and protect each other, who do not violate the rights of others, who are tolerant, and who heal each other's wounds... Now is the perfect time to remember this..."
