Historic Syriac Bazaar enters restoration process
The historic Syriac Bazaar in the Dargeçit district of Mardin is being restored in accordance with its original structure.

The Dargeçit Municipality and the Diyarbakır Survey and Monuments Directorate have prepared the "Historic Bazaar Revitalization Project" for the restoration of the historic Syriac Bazaar, which houses 65 shops on Sefa Street.
Within the scope of the project, the historic bazaar, where restoration work is being carried out, will be brought into tourism.
Diyarbakır Survey and Monuments Director Cemil Koç stated that the work, which they began in January of last year, is being carried out meticulously.
'SURFACE CLEANING IS UNDERWAY'
Noting that they are carrying out restoration and repair work on 65 shops in the bazaar, 40 of which are registered, Koç said:
"In addition to this, street improvement work is also being carried out on 15 non-registered houses facing the street. We are specifically carrying out reinforcement work on our registered structures. In the interiors, joint opening, joint filling, and surface cleaning are being performed on the walls.
Insulation work and work related to moving the infrastructure underground are continuing intensively. We aim to complete the restoration and street rehabilitation work in the near future and bring the bazaar into tourism."
