According to reports, a couple who decided to divorce, claiming they could no longer get along, applied to a lawyer to initiate the proceedings. The couple also decided to divide the assets and household goods they acquired during their marriage under the supervision of the court and their lawyers.

Among the items to be divided, the toilet brush drew attention. The court sent the file to an expert witness to determine the value of the items after their period of use. The value of the toilet brush and other items will be determined by the expert after examining the wear and tear, and the court will then issue a ruling on the division of the property.

WEAR AND TEAR IS BEING EXAMINED

Commenting on the case, lawyer Taha Ekici stated, “Our female client came to our office to get a divorce. We filed a lawsuit for all the divorce processes and ancillary claims for this couple. Of course, the division of property is also involved among these ancillary claims. This includes items they bought together or items they purchased individually. The client brought us a full list of these items. We filed a lawsuit with the court based on this list. We were expecting a decision in the last hearing, but the court did not rule. Specifically, in the list sent to us, the list the client brought us, all items were written in great detail, down to their brand names. These items include armchairs, sofas, and interestingly, even a toilet brush. Now, the court has determined the current value of these items. However, the court requested that this file go to an expert witness again. Because it stated that these items have been used and that there would be depreciation after use, which would lower their value. Therefore, it sent the file back to an expert. In short, the expert will now determine how much the toilet brush has worn out and what its value will be after that wear, and then the court will issue a decision accordingly.”

“OUR CASE HAS NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED BECAUSE OF A TOILET BRUSH”

Stating that they have concluded the client's divorce case, jewelry case, and custody case, Ekici said, “We have actually finished the client's divorce, the jewelry case, and the custody case. However, the only thing that is not finished right now is these items we mentioned, meaning, in fact, our case is not yet considered complete because of a toilet brush. We are currently waiting for that. I think this case is a first.”

Offering advice to couples who are about to divorce or get married, Ekici said, “Even a toilet brush they buy can be very influential in a couple's divorce. Sometimes they can wait months even for this. That is why I recommend that they pay attention to every single item and every single piece they purchase.”
