What steps will Ayşe Barım take after the release decision: Statement from her lawyer

Stating that they had voiced their client's health condition many times and that the court had made the release decision by taking health reasons into account, Ketenci noted the following:

"In these requests, we stated that our client has two stents in her brain, suffers from an aneurysm, that this aneurysm recurred at the base of the stent during her time in prison and is at risk of rupturing, and that she also has six separate heart conditions and an illness severe enough to require a heart transplant.

We did not just state these. All of these illnesses were also diagnosed in reports provided by Silivri State Hospital, Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, the Council of Forensic Medicine, and the Turkish Medical Association.

*In its latest report, the Council of Forensic Medicine expressed the opinion that she must be treated and sent to a hospital immediately. It did not have an opinion stating that ‘there is no objection to her remaining in prison’.

*The court decided on her release, taking into account that all evidence had been collected, witnesses had been heard, and considering her health reasons, along with judicial control measures including house arrest and a travel ban.

*From now on, my client and her family will only take the necessary steps regarding her health and will begin the necessary examinations and treatments."

"THERE IS SERIOUS MUSCLE LOSS"

Stating that Ayşe Barım can receive treatment at any hospital and from any doctor she chooses, Lawyer Ketenci continued:

“She can make decisions regarding her own life-threatening risks. She will say which hospital she wants to go to. Since there is an electronic monitoring bracelet, it is very easy to track her. She will go to and from these hospitals, but she will be at home. First of all, she needs to be prepared for the treatment she will receive due to these illnesses.

It is not possible to prepare for this under prison conditions. There was serious muscle loss in terms of nutrition. There was a 34-kilo weight loss. Therefore, for a surgery related to the brain and heart to take place, her body first needs to become healthier. Thus, at least at home, this environment will be created for her in some way.” 

"THEY CLEARLY STATED THAT SHE HAD NO ACTIVE ROLE"

Ketenci stated that they were expecting Ayşe Barım's release. Noting that her client was detained and arrested on the allegation that she directed witnesses of the case to the Gezi Park protests in accordance with Article 312 of the Turkish Penal Code, titled "Crimes against the Government," Ketenci stated, "All the witnesses were heard. They all stated that they were there of their own volition. And they clearly stated that they used their own social media accounts, that Ayşe was only their manager, that she could only assist them with matters related to their work, and that Ayşe did not have an active role in their private lives or in such decisions.”
