With the new updates announced, WhatsApp has introduced many innovations and content across group chats, one-on-one conversations, calls, and channels for its users to experience.
The company states that these features aim to facilitate user interactions, make communication more fluid, and provide greater control over messaging.
"ONLINE" INDICATOR FOR GROUP CHATS
WhatsApp has introduced a new "online" indicator that shows how many people are active in group chats. This feature appears under the group name, allowing users to see how lively the chat is.
Additionally, users will be able to limit group notifications to only "@mentions", replies, and messages from saved contacts, which are considered "highlights."
EVENTS ARE NOW POSSIBLE IN ONE-ON-ONE CHATS TOO
The Events feature, which was previously only available in groups, can now be used in one-on-one chats as well. Users will be able to create events in individual conversations, set their attendance status to "maybe," and pin events to the chat.
INTERACTIVE AND TAPPABLE EMOJI REACTIONS
With the new update, users can tap on a reaction given to a message to use the same emoji or add their own reactions.
With this feature, the interactive messaging experience on WhatsApp becomes more dynamic.
IMPROVEMENTS IN VIDEO CALLS
WhatsApp, which has made infrastructure improvements to increase connection reliability in video calls, aims to minimize freezing and interruption issues. The company announced that the routing system has been optimized and that video quality can be automatically upgraded to HD depending on the internet connection.
NEW FEATURES EXCLUSIVE TO IPHONE USERS
New platform-specific features have been added to WhatsApp for iPhone users. While pinch-to-zoom support has arrived for video calls, the ability to scan documents directly from within the application has also been introduced.
Furthermore, users will be able to set WhatsApp as the default messaging and calling application on their iPhone.
NEW BROADCAST TOOLS FOR CHANNELS
Bringing significant innovations for channels as well, WhatsApp has offered channel administrators the opportunity to record and share videos up to 60 seconds long. Additionally, a QR code generation option has been introduced to easily share channel links. Voice messages can now be automatically transcribed, allowing content to be followed silently.
WhatsApp announced that it has rolled out the majority of these new features to both iPhone and Android users.
