Yeşilçam's Sultan Türkan Şoray: 'May the hands raised against women be broken'

Büyükçekmece Municipality organized a talk for International Women's Day on March 8. The event, held at the Büyükçekmece Atatürk Cultural Center, featured Yeşilçam's master actress Türkan Şoray and historian and author Sacide Bolcan as speakers. During the conversation, Şoray sang a song, and all the guests in the hall enjoyed themselves thoroughly while celebrating International Women's Day on March 8.

While Türkan Şoray was speaking on stage, master Yeşilçam actor Müjdat Gezen made a surprise appearance to visit her and celebrate Women's Day. The famous artist Türkan Şoray was deeply moved when she learned that the Büyükçekmece Municipality had named the Selimpınar Valley of Life park after her.

"WE LOST 8 WOMEN IN A SINGLE DAY LAST WEEK"

Participating in the program, master Yeşilçam artist Türkan Şoray said, "We will talk and share our troubles with the beautiful women of Büyükçekmece. In fact, the issue of women has been a problem in our country for years. For years, our women have been fighting for social equality at home, in the workplace, and in every segment of society.

We see our women in important positions in many places; they are productive, have proven themselves, and stand on their own two feet, which truly makes us happy. Unfortunately, as women have become empowered, femicides have also started to increase. We lost 8 women in a single day last week.

This is terrifying. Murders must be prevented by imposing deterrent sentences, but I think education is important for these problems to disappear. There needs to be an education mobilization; this mentality must change. For that, our women especially must be educated so that they can teach their sons how to treat and approach a woman.

Men need to be educated so that they can understand how valuable women are and how they should treat them. I hope for a beautiful world where women attain their full freedom and live under equal conditions. Actually, every day should be Women's Day. My wish is for our women to live in a beautiful world where they have free and equal rights. Women have started to become more aware of their rights and have started to fight more to exist."

The master artist recited a poem she wrote specifically for International Women's Day and stated, "May the hands raised against women be broken. How can a person harm their mother or their child? Do not harm women; let flowers bloom in every season, and let women always smile."
