Zeki Demirkubuz's statement on Nuri Bilge Ceylan: 'We are actually a trio'

Zeki Demirkubuz, the director who returned to cinema after an eight-year hiatus with the film 'Hayat', met with the audience at a talk held in Van.

At the event moderated by director Dilan Engin, Demirkubuz spoke on many topics ranging from his personal journey to his cinematic life.

During the Q&A session of the talk, which exceeded the planned duration and lasted more than three hours, the audience asked Demirkubuz about his latest film 'Hayat' and the controversy he had with director Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

'NORMALLY 10 THOUSAND PEOPLE WOULD WATCH IT'

Speaking about the controversy with Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Demirkubuz said, "We are actually a trio with Nuri Bilge. It's not just Nuri Bilge, there is also İsmail (Kılıçarslan). The three of us are a trio. Normally, 10 thousand people would watch this film of mine, but thanks to this, 65 thousand people watched it. I will give them a percentage."

'STRANGE OFFERS ARE COMING'

Stating that his film 'Masumiyet' (Innocence) also received great interest abroad, Demirkubuz made a reference to Nuri Bilge Ceylan regarding the Cannes Film Festival:

"Because of my stupidity, I didn't evaluate it enough, but the interest abroad was high. I gave it to the Venice Festival, which was the first to ask; for example, Cannes wanted it. Although they don't want it anymore, they want Nuri Bilge... A strange opportunity opened up for me. I'm going to France, I'm going there. Strange offers are coming. I'm confused too.

I run away at such times. I run away when I receive too much attention. To avoid surrendering to it, I run away a little and take stock; if it seems like it will morally corrupt me, I run away completely. If not, I try to establish a more correct relationship."
