Acting mayor election concluded at Çankaya Municipality: The name of the new official has been determined

Following the arrest and suspension of Hüseyin Can Güner, Haldun Güler received 37 votes in the second round of the election.

Following the arrest of Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner and his subsequent suspension by the Ministry of Interior, an election for an acting mayor was held in the municipal council. The candidates for the election were Municipal Council Member and financial advisor Haldun Güler from the CHP group, and the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the Council, lawyer Fevzi Gümüş.

In the secret ballot election, candidates were required to reach 31 votes out of the total 46 members in the first round. In the first round, Haldun Güler received 30 votes, while Fevzi Gümüş received 6 votes. Two votes were declared invalid, and 5 members cast blank ballots.

As the required majority was not reached in the first round, the election proceeded to a second round. In the second round, 43 votes were cast; 3 votes were blank, and 1 vote was declared invalid.

Haldun Güler, who received 37 votes in this round, was elected as the Acting Mayor of Çankaya. Fevzi Gümüş received 2 votes in the second round.

Hüseyin Can Güner was arrested on July 15 as part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
