AFAD President Pehlivan: Evacuations carried out in 464 households in Tokat

Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) President Ali Hamza Pehlivan arrived in the city to evaluate the measures taken against the rising water levels in the Yeşilırmak River and the potential flood risk posed by water discharge from the Almus Dam. Pehlivan first visited the ÇEDAŞ bridge, which was demolished as part of flood prevention measures, where he was briefed by Tokat Mayor Yazıcıoğlu on the ongoing work in the region.

Making statements following his inspections, AFAD President Ali Hamza Pehlivan stated that comprehensive risk reduction efforts are being carried out across the city, saying, "Reinforcements for flood protection have been installed by State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) teams. Thank God, we have not had any loss of life so far. We have had no injuries. One dimension of risk reduction is evacuations. As of today, evacuation operations have been carried out in 464 households. Approximately 850 of our citizens have been hosted in public guesthouses."
Stating that importance is also placed on the evacuation of animals, Pehlivan added, "The evacuation of 10,333 cattle, approximately 3,500 small livestock, and around 2,500 beehives has been completed."
"206 out of 250 reports are related to flooding"
Noting that approximately 250 reports have reached the 112 Emergency Call Center, Pehlivan stated that 206 of these were related to homes experiencing flooding, and that teams have responded to all reports. Explaining that evacuations were carried out in flooded homes under the coordination of AFAD, the municipality, and the governor's office, Pehlivan also noted that reinforcement and evacuation work was conducted at 42 workplaces.
"We have taken every precaution against rising water levels"
Expressing that protection efforts are continuing at many points in the city against potential flood risks, Pehlivan said, "Every precaution has been taken against the risk of water levels rising more than expected due to potential discharge from the Almus Dam spillway. As of today, thanks to these measures, we have had no losses, thank God."
