Allegations of suspicious infant death at private hospital: He was being discharged

Aladdin Taşdemir (44) and Feride Taşdemir (41), a couple living in the Veliefendi neighborhood of Zeytinburnu, were expecting to welcome their 4th child when mother Taşdemir was taken to Sante Plus Hospital in Zeytinburnu on January 16, when her due date arrived.

The baby was born via cesarean section. It is alleged that the baby, whom the family wanted to name Hamza, was in good health. On January 17, hospital staff stated there were no issues and began discharge procedures.

According to the allegations, baby Hamza was taken from his family for a final check-up, moved to another room, and kept there for 4 hours. During this time, the family, who persistently asked about the baby's health, was not given any information.

The hospital management told the family they wanted to transfer the baby to Avrasya Hospital. However, the private hospital to which he was being transferred refused the transfer upon learning that the baby had died. Later, Sante Plus Hospital informed the family that the baby had passed away. Finding the incident suspicious, the family went to the police station and filed a complaint against the hospital.

Meanwhile, baby Hamza, who lost his life, was brought to the Yenibosna Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. Following the autopsy procedures, the baby's body was received by his family.

Speaking about the incident, the baby's father, Aladdin Taşdemir, said, “We took my wife to Zeytinburnu Sante Plus Hospital on the 16th. She gave birth there via cesarean section. The child was born perfectly healthy; he had no health problems.

His mother was breastfeeding the child, there was no problem. We were told he would be discharged on the 17th. My wife asked for a final check-up before leaving. Then they took the baby and moved him to another room.

They didn't give the baby back, and they didn't say anything. They said, 'Your child is fine, there is nothing wrong,' but he stayed there for 3-4 hours. I don't know what happened there. The hospital lacks equipment. When we entered the hospital, the heaters weren't working; we stayed in the cold for 2-3 hours. There is no intubation. After he stayed where they took him for 3-4 hours, they said, 'We are going to transfer your child to Avrasya Hospital.'

The child, who normally had nothing wrong with him, was already gone by the time he was being transferred to the other hospital. We were not told anything about the cause of death. Then we went to the police station and filed a complaint.”
