Following reports that the 'Ayran Day' festival, organized annually by Bornova Anadolu High School in İzmir—an institution whose alumni include CHP Chairman Özel and former mayor Tunç Soyer—had been banned by the District Directorate of National Education, a statement was made on the school's social media account providing information about the event.
"OUR ALUMNI ARE INVITED TO OUR TRADITIONAL EVENT"
The statement read, "Our Traditional Ayran Day, which will begin on June 2 at 12:00, will be held with the approval of the District Directorate of National Education. All our alumni are invited to our traditional event. Sincerely."
The claim that the traditional festival, which is being held for the 58th time this year at BAL—the alma mater of numerous politicians and famous figures—had been banned by the District Directorate of National Education had sparked controversy.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, CHP's Kamil Okyay Sındır, Tunç Soyer, and TKP Central Committee member Kemal Okuyan are among the politicians who are BAL alumni.
