Circumcision scandal in Niğde: Non-doctor employee performed the operation, 6-year-old child died

According to the allegations, 6-year-old Metin Muhammet Erdem, who was circumcised at the Yaşam Medical Center in Niğde on January 30, fell ill after taking a painkiller syrup prescribed by the medical center's doctor due to persistent pain. On February 2, when his family took him to the Emergency Department of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Training and Research Hospital, the same painkiller that the child had reacted to by vomiting at home was allegedly administered intravenously before the results of blood tests were even available. The young child, who was taken to Kayseri by his family's own means that same night and then to Malatya by air ambulance, could not be saved despite a liver transplant from his older brother.

Father Mehmet Erdem claimed that his son lost his life due to negligence and incorrect treatment during the process leading up to the organ transplant after being circumcised by a medical center employee who was not a doctor. Stating that no judicial process has been initiated despite 9 months having passed, father Erdem said, "We learned that the person who circumcised my child at a private medical center in Niğde was not a doctor when we saw a different name in the e-Nabız records. When we asked the medical center officials about this, they said they had brought in a circumciser from outside. They even called me and offered money while my child was in the process of a liver transplant. The circumciser, whom we thought was a doctor, said 'Give it every hour if he has pain' regarding the syrup given when my child started vomiting at home. When he didn't get better, we went to the State Hospital Emergency Department, and we were hit with another blow there. The painkiller that he had reacted to was administered intravenously there as well, without any blood tests being performed on our child whom we had brought in perfectly healthy, and my child went into a coma."

"HIS LIVER FAILED DUE TO INCORRECT MEDICATION AND WASTED TIME"

Stating that when his child's condition worsened, the doctor on duty told them they had to take him to Kayseri by their own means, Erdem noted that they were referred to Malatya for a liver transplant, which had failed due to the incorrect medication given and the time lost. Erdem said, "When we went to Malatya, they took him into surgery very urgently because my son had a seizure due to the delay. His older brother became the donor and the liver transplant was performed. After staying in intensive care for 15 days, he woke up, but when his condition deteriorated again, he lost his life in the intensive care unit where he was taken."

"9 MONTHS HAVE PASSED, NO LAWSUIT FILED"

Mehmet Erdem, who claims to have official documents regarding the process and that his son lost his life due to mistakes made, reacted to the lack of progress in the legal battle he initiated despite 9 months having passed, saying, "I want the authorities to look into this matter. We are already not living, but we want whoever is right or wrong to be brought to light."
