Hakkari's DEM Party Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış was removed from office by the Ministry of Interior, and Hakkari Governor Ali Çelik was appointed as acting mayor in his place.

DEM Party members gathered in front of a shopping mall in the Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır to make a statement.

While the press statement was initially not permitted, the group was allowed to make the statement following negotiations.

In her statement, DEM Party Diyarbakır Provincial Chair Pınar Sakık Tekin said, "Just as we defended our will in Van and Hilvan, we will defend it in Hakkari and will not allow fascism to pass."
