Doctor's wife also loses her life after being trapped under collapsed stone arch at wedding venue
In the Menemen district of İzmir, the wife of a doctor, who was severely injured when a decorative stone arch at the exit of a wedding venue collapsed on them as they were leaving an event, has also lost her life. The death toll from the tragic incident has risen to 2, and 1 of the 3 individuals detained has been arrested.

The incident occurred on May 25 at a wedding venue in the Yahşelli neighborhood of Menemen district. According to the information obtained, Dr. Mehmet Fatih Baltacı (35), a physician at the İzmir City Hospital Pediatric Emergency Clinic, and his wife Güler Baltacı (35) had come to the wedding venue for a breakfast event organized by the Ulukent Derinsu Kindergarten, where their child is a student.
As they were leaving the wedding venue after the event, a decorative stone arch located at the exit collapsed onto the Baltacı couple.
While the Baltacı couple remained trapped under the concrete rubble, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the address following reports from citizens. While the gendarmerie teams took security measures, the severely injured Baltacı couple were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Despite all interventions, Mehmet Fatih Baltacı could not be saved and lost his life, while his wife, Güler Baltacı, had been transferred to İzmir City Hospital.
Following her husband, Güler Baltacı also lost her battle for life despite all interventions. Güler Baltacı's body was taken to the İzmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue following an examination.
Within the scope of the investigation launched into the incident, 3 suspects, including the wedding venue operators—a mother, father, and their son—were detained. Of the suspects referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the gendarmerie, the son, I.C., who operated the venue, was arrested, while the mother, N.C., and the father, G.C., were released under judicial control.
