Drunk driver 11 times over the legal limit passes out at the wheel while refueling

In Aksaray, a driver who pulled up to a gas station pump in a pickup truck while 11 times over the legal alcohol limit passed out at the wheel due to extreme intoxication. While paramedics and night watchmen struggled to wake the driver and eventually got him into an ambulance, the gas station attendant attempted to collect the 4,000 lira payment for the fuel by bringing a POS device into the ambulance.

The incident occurred at a gas station on the Aksaray-Ankara Highway in the Çiftlik neighborhood. According to the information obtained, Engin G. (39) got into his pickup truck with license plate 68 AHA 210 after consuming a large amount of alcohol and pulled up to a fuel pump at a gas station.

Engin G., who told the attendant to put 4,000 lira worth of fuel in the vehicle, passed out with his head on the steering wheel. Although the pump attendant tried to wake him for a while, the situation was reported to the night watchmen on duty in the area when the driver did not wake up. The watchmen requested an ambulance and a traffic team to the scene.

The intoxicated driver, whom paramedics and then watchmen tried to wake with great effort, was eventually roused with difficulty and was then taken out of the vehicle and placed on a stretcher. Although the driver did not want to lie on the stretcher and tried to get back into the pickup truck, he was persuaded by the watchmen and taken into the ambulance.

Tested at 2.33 promille, 11 times over the legal limit

The driver, who was made to blow into a breathalyzer by teams from the Provincial Police Department's Regional Traffic Inspection Branch, was found to have 2.33 promille of alcohol in his system, 11 times the legal limit. The gas station attendant, waiting at the ambulance door with a POS machine in his hand, tried to collect the fuel money by handing the device to the driver inside the ambulance. The driver was taken by ambulance to the Aksaray Training and Research Hospital Emergency Department for a medical check-up. During the investigation, it was determined that the individual had previously been caught driving under the influence. The driver, caught for the second time while intoxicated, had his license suspended for 2 years and was fined 250,000 lira. The pickup truck was towed to a parking lot by a tow truck called to the scene. Meanwhile, the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated a judicial investigation into the driver.
