Earthquake in Elazığ

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake occurred with its epicenter in the Sivrice district of Elazığ.

According to information received from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Earthquake Department, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake occurred at 00:05 with its epicenter in the Sivrice district of Elazığ. It was learned that there were no negative reports regarding the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of approximately 7 kilometers.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR AND MAYOR

Following the earthquake, consecutive statements were made by Elazığ Governor Numan Hatipoğlu and Mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları.

Governor Hatipoğlu said, "Get well soon, Elazığ. Dear citizens of Elazığ, according to our initial investigations, thankfully no negative situation has been detected. May God protect our country from all kinds of disasters," and shared the following statement from the Elazığ Governorship on social media:

"According to information received from the Ministry of Interior (AFAD) Disaster and Emergency Management Authority; a 4.4 MW magnitude earthquake occurred in our Sivrice district on 15/10/2024 at 00:05.

Following the earthquake, as of 00:16, no damage reports have been made to AFAD or the 112 emergency call lines in our province.

All our units are closely monitoring the effects of the earthquake in our province."

Elazığ Mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları also used the following expressions in his post on social media:

"I convey my best wishes to all our citizens affected by the 4.4-magnitude #earthquake that occurred in our city. May God protect our city and our country from all kinds of disasters."
