Earthquake school closures in Tekirdağ and Kocaeli

Following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of the Sea of Marmara, schools in Tekirdağ and Kocaeli have been closed for one day.

In a statement issued by the Tekirdağ Governor's Office, it was announced that education in all primary and secondary schools, as well as kindergartens across the province, has been suspended for one day due to the earthquake.

Furthermore, disabled, pregnant, and veteran personnel working in public institutions, as well as mothers with children under the age of 10, will be considered on administrative leave without the need for any further processing.

However, personnel working in health and security units are excluded from this measure.

Authorities have called on citizens to remain calm and follow official announcements.

SCHOOLS IN KOCAELİ CLOSED FOR ONE DAY

The Kocaeli Governor's Office has announced that schools will be closed for one day.

In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated: "The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri, Istanbul, in the Sea of Marmara was also felt in our province. On Thursday, April 24, 2025, education and training have been suspended for one (1) day in all official and private formal and non-formal education institutions, motor vehicle driver courses (excluding practical driving training), and all other courses (including rehabilitation centers and open education institutions) throughout our province. Disabled, pregnant, and chronically ill personnel, as well as female personnel with children under the age of 10 who are continuing their education, working in public institutions (excluding those whose presence is essential for the operational functioning of the institution) will be considered on administrative leave for one (1) day."
