According to the information received, neighbors who saw a fire breaking out in a house in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Upon the report, health and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene. At that time, the mother, who was learned to have returned from collecting scrap metal, also arrived at the house.
Three of the 5 siblings in the same room, who were determined to have been affected by smoke, lost their lives at the scene. Two siblings, who were taken to the hospital by ambulance, could not be saved despite the interventions.
The incident occurred in the evening hours at a house in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of the Selçuk district.
According to the information obtained, Melisa Akcan, who makes a living by collecting scrap metal, allegedly left her five children, aged between 1 and 5, at home and went out to collect scrap.
While the children were at home, a fire broke out as a result of an electric heater used for heating tipping over. As the fire grew in a short time and the house filled with smoke, neighborhood residents and citizens in the vicinity noticed the fire and notified the fire and health teams.
The teams that arrived at the scene intervened and extinguished the fire, while three of the siblings trapped inside, named Nefes, Peri, Akçan, Masal, and Aras Bulut Akcan, lost their lives at the scene, and 2 were taken to the hospital by ambulance but could not be saved despite the interventions.
