In the Dörtyol district of Hatay, various non-compliances were identified during inspections of school canteens, including ready-to-eat doner kebab that was stated to have expired more than a year ago.
The checks conducted by municipal police teams were based on criteria set by the Ministry of National Education. The inspections examined products prohibited for sale in canteens, food expiration dates, storage conditions, hygiene rules, and the general order of the businesses.
During the checks, products and practices contrary to regulations were identified in some canteens. The teams took action against the relevant businesses due to the deficiencies and non-compliances detected.
The most striking finding of the inspection concerned the ready-to-eat doner kebab product. Municipal Police Chief Ali Avan, noting during the examination in the canteen that the product's expiration date was from 2025, said, "More than a year has passed since the expiration date of the ready-to-eat doner kebab you are buying and selling to children."
Avan also stated that prices in canteens must be posted in a way that students can see them. Providing warnings regarding the storage method of fried potatoes and the condition of the toaster, Avan requested that a detailed report be prepared for the findings.
Pointing out that canteens serve students directly, Avan emphasized that unsuitable conditions cannot be permitted, stating, "I cannot allow these; let us prepare a detailed report."
