Explosion at a quarry in Samsun: Rocks fell onto the highway

An explosion occurred at a quarry in Samsun while construction machinery was in operation. As a result of the explosion, rocks fell onto the Samsun-Ordu highway. The rocks struck passing vehicles, and a total of 4 people were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred at 17:15 at the Özön Quarry, located across from the filling facility on Atatürk Boulevard in the Tekkeköy district of Samsun. Following a report of an explosion made to 112, police, medical, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene.

According to the information obtained, the explosion took place during rock-breaking work by construction machinery. As a result of the explosion, rock fragments were scattered onto the Samsun-Ordu highway. Rocks rained down on passing vehicles. The rocks struck a truck with Uzbekistan license plates and a car with the license plate 34 YS 3119. A total of 4 people, including 2 passengers in the car, were injured. The injured were taken to a private hospital.

Police took extensive security measures at the scene. Traffic was directed in a controlled manner. A long convoy of vehicles formed on the road. After traffic was halted for a while, cleaning crews collected the rock fragments from the road and reopened the traffic safely.

While the cause of the explosion is being investigated, an inquiry into the incident has been launched. Authorities are focusing on the possibility that the construction machinery's breaker struck unexploded dynamite that had been placed between the rocks previously.
