Father of 14-year-old girl alleges his ex-wife tied up and beat their child

Barış Kocabay, who works as a contract civil servant at a public institution in Marmaris, stated that the incident took place on the night of Thursday, April 4, and that he has been in shock since that day, maintaining his composure to initiate the legal process. 

Kocabay said in his statement, "On Thursday evening, my ex-wife K.Ö., the mother of my 14-year-old and 10-year-old daughters, called me and told me to come and pick up my 14-year-old daughter. At that moment, my daughter Y.K. was shouting on the phone, practically begging, 'Dad, please come and get me.' I immediately went to the house where my ex-wife and daughters live and picked up my daughter. 

My daughter's eyes were swollen from crying, but she asked me to drive, saying, 'Dad, let's go immediately.' When I pressed her, she cried and described the violence she had experienced. According to my daughter, when her mother came home from work, she warned her to turn off the computer, and when she tried to use violence against my daughter, who did not turn it off, my daughter resisted her mother, saying, 'You cannot hit me' with her hand. 

"SHE USED A ONE-METER STICK TO BEAT HER RIGHT LEG AND ARMS"

Upon this, her mother K.Ö. said, 'You'll see,' went outside, and called her boyfriend, I.B. I.B. tied my daughter's arms and legs with thick, orange plastic zip-tie-style cords he brought with him.

Her mother then took a one-meter stick and beat my daughter, especially on her right leg and arms; during the violence, her boyfriend I.B. covered her mouth so she wouldn't scream. As soon as I heard this, I called my lawyer, and my lawyer told me to go to the hospital immediately. When I took my daughter to the hospital, it was determined that her wrists and legs were bruised from the violence, and they called the hospital police.

When I explained the incident to the police, child protection officers and a pedagogue arrived immediately and took statements from both my daughter and me. Meanwhile, they had threatened my daughter, saying, 'If you report us, you are on psychiatric medication, no one will believe you, we are three people,'" he said.

"I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO GET CUSTODY"

Barış Kocabay stated that he brought his daughter, who had been subjected to violence, to his own home and said, "I will do everything in my power to get custody of my 10-year-old daughter and my 14-year-old daughter who was subjected to violence. I have filed a complaint against her mother, her mother's boyfriend, and my daughters' grandmother, who was at home at the time of the incident and did not intervene.

I trust in justice; I am in a position to take care of my children, and I will fight for them to stay with me so that they do not further damage their future and psychology. I believe that my ex-wife and those with her will receive the necessary punishments," he said, indicating that he would continue his legal struggle.

It was learned that the mother, K.Ö., and her boyfriend, I.B., who are alleged to have tied up and beaten the girl, were apprehended by law enforcement upon the instructions of the Marmaris Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and were taken into custody on charges of deprivation of liberty and child abuse, and that the judicial process is ongoing.
