Former chamber of agriculture president murdered

In the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa, a former chamber of agriculture president was shot and killed while attempting to mediate a dispute between his son and a relative.

According to the information obtained, the incident occurred in the evening hours in the rural Güvenir neighborhood of Birecik. Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak (55), a former president of the chamber of agriculture, had a son who argued with their relative Salih Ç. (28) in the Birecik district center due to a long-standing land dispute. The parties, who arrived at the rural neighborhood, explained the situation to the family elders.

Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak wanted to go to the other party's house to prevent the incident from escalating. It is alleged that upon seeing Çakmak arrive, those on the other side opened fire with a gun, shooting Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak. Seriously injured, Çakmak lost his life at the Birecik State Hospital despite all interventions.

Gendarmerie teams arriving at the neighborhood detained Zekeriya Ç., Salih Ç., and Mehmet Ç., who were determined to have been involved in the incident.

It was learned that an investigation is underway to determine who shot and killed Mehmet Hıdır Çakmak.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
