Guns fired during police ID check in Arnavutköy

In Arnavutköy, two individuals inside a vehicle drew weapons while police teams were conducting checks around an abandoned building. A shootout broke out between the police and the suspects, resulting in one suspect losing his life and the other being seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Candaner Street in the Taşoluk neighborhood. According to the information obtained, police teams went to inspect an abandoned building on Kavakdibi Street regarding drug use.

The teams working around the building wanted to perform an identity check on suspicious vehicles following reports from citizens.

At that moment, 2 suspects inside a vehicle on the street drew weapons and tried to flee upon seeing the police. A shootout broke out between the police teams and the suspects.

2 INJURED SUSPECTS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

In the ensuing shootout, the teams neutralized suspects Hakan Ç. and Erhan K. Medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification.

The 2 injured suspects were taken to the hospital by medical teams.

It was learned that the suspect named Erhan K. lost his life in the hospital despite all interventions.

It was reported that the suspect named Hakan Ç., who was seriously injured in the leg and abdomen, is still undergoing treatment. While police investigations into the matter continue, it was revealed that the suspects had numerous criminal records for various offenses.

STATEMENT FROM THE ISTANBUL GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The statement regarding the incident that took place around 16:00 in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhood of Arnavutköy district is as follows:

"Our police teams, who were conducting an operation against drug dealers in the region, approached a vehicle for inspection, but fire was opened on our teams by individuals named E.K. and H.Ç. who were in the vehicle. As a result of the police teams returning fire, the individuals in question were shot. E.K., one of the individuals transferred to the hospital, lost his life at the hospital. The treatment of H.Ç. is ongoing.

During the search conducted on the individuals, drugs ready for sale and an unlicensed pistol were seized. In the inquiry conducted regarding the individuals, it was determined that E.K. had a total of 13 criminal records for intentional injury, theft, etc., and H.Ç. had a total of 6 criminal records.
