He killed his girlfriend's mother and committed suicide
In Samsun, a 24-year-old man who shot and killed his girlfriend's mother and fled in her vehicle took his own life when he realized he would be caught during a police pursuit.

The incident occurred in the Yeni neighborhood of Samsun's Atakum district. According to the information obtained, Mert Okumuş (24), who went to his girlfriend's house, shot and killed her mother, Arzu Açıkgöz (44), with a handgun during an argument.
Mert Okumuş took the woman's Audi-brand vehicle with license plate 55 AHP 964 and fled. Upon notification, police and medical teams arrived at the scene and determined that Arzu Açıkgöz had lost her life at the scene.

The Samsun police went on alert and mobilized to capture the fleeing Mert Okumuş. It was determined through City Security Management System (KGYS) cameras that the car driven by Mert Okumuş had headed in the direction of the Canik district. Police teams quickly located the vehicle and began a pursuit.
The chase between the police and the individual ended on the viaduct opposite the filling facilities on Atatürk Boulevard in the Devgeriş neighborhood of the Canik district. Realizing he would be caught, Mert Okumuş shot himself in the head with a handgun inside the moving vehicle.
The car, which came to a stop after crashing, caused 4 other vehicles, including 1 police car, to be involved in an accident. It was determined that Mert Okumuş, who stopped by hitting the vehicle in front of him, had lost his life at the scene. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
