Kurdish music dispute in Bayrampaşa: DEM Party calls for protest in front of courthouse

In Istanbul's Bayrampaşa district, an argument broke out between police and a group accused of disturbing the peace by playing loud music. As the argument escalated, the incident turned into a brawl, and 10 people were detained.

In a statement regarding the incident, the DEM Party claimed that the group was listening to Kurdish music and that the police intervened and assaulted these individuals. Stating that they find this situation unacceptable, the party said, "It is inhumane for an individual claiming to be a police officer, who could not tolerate a family returning from a picnic listening to Kurdish music, to assault family members, including children and a pregnant woman, alongside the police officers he called to the scene."

DEMAND FOR POLICE OFFICERS TO BE SUSPENDED

The party emphasized that they would not remain silent in the face of this attack and would follow the case closely. Furthermore, they stated that the police officers who carried out the attack must be immediately suspended and that the legal process must be conducted swiftly and transparently.

While footage of the incident has caused a widespread reaction on social media, the DEM Party has called for a gathering at the Çağlayan Courthouse at 5:00 PM with the slogan "We will not allow intolerance toward the Kurdish language."
