Mersin Governor's Office: Fires brought under control, cooling efforts continue

The Mersin Governor's Office has issued a statement regarding the forest fires that have been ongoing for 3 days in Silifke and 2 days in Anamur.

The statement said, "The forest fire that began in the Balandız and Kırtıl neighborhoods of Silifke district on August 13, 2025, at 12:45 PM has been largely brought under control as a result of the intensive and dedicated efforts of the teams, and cooling operations are continuing.

Cooling operations are being carried out effectively with 1 helicopter, 346 land vehicles, and 1,069 personnel. Due to 10 residential areas being affected by the fire in Silifke district, 984 households have been evacuated.

The 17 citizens and personnel affected by smoke were discharged following initial intervention."

COOLING EFFORTS CONTINUE

The statement also included the following remarks regarding the fire that broke out yesterday in the Anamur district:

"The forest fire that began in the Korucuk neighborhood of our Anamur district on August 14, 2025, at 3:45 PM has been largely brought under control as a result of the intensive and dedicated efforts of the teams, and cooling operations are continuing. Cooling operations are being carried out effectively with 4 helicopters, 80 land vehicles, and 238 personnel. Due to 3 residential areas being affected by the fire, 65 households have been evacuated. There are no citizens or personnel affected by the fire."

The statement added that damage assessment work has begun in the residential units affected by the fire in both districts by the relevant directorates.
