New development regarding 'foot-and-mouth' suspicion in Seferihisar

In a written statement issued by the İzmir Governor's Office, it was stated: "On May 31, 2024, following a verbal report made to our Seferihisar District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry by a freelance veterinarian regarding a suspected case of foot-and-mouth disease at a cattle farm in the Turgut neighborhood of Seferihisar district, a visit was made to the facility, and samples were taken from the animal in question and sent to the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Institute Directorate for analysis. 

A District Commission decision was taken, and as a precautionary measure, a 10-kilometer radius around the farm where the disease was suspected was placed under quarantine until the analysis results were obtained. During the quarantine process, all necessary administrative and technical measures were taken, and all facilities in the region were disinfected. 

Since January 2024, the vaccination rate for our cattle in the Seferihisar district has been 95 percent. According to the analysis results received from the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Institute Directorate on June 3, 2024, no foot-and-mouth disease virus was detected in the suspected animal. 

Following the elimination of the suspicion, the quarantine application was terminated by the district commission. We would like to inform the public that our citizens should disregard unfounded reports and can safely purchase their sacrificial animals from livestock markets that have been authorized by our Ministry and are monitored and inspected by our Official Veterinarians before the Eid al-Adha."
