No water for Bodrum from Mumcular Dam
Falling groundwater levels and drying dams due to climate change are also affecting Muğla. As the level in the Mumcular Dam, which provides drinking water to Bodrum, has dropped to 17 percent, water can no longer be supplied to the peninsula from the dam.

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, who conducted inspections at the Mumcular Dam, which is nearing the point of drying up, stated that they cannot provide water to Bodrum from the dam and that they are working on alternative water sources.
Aras emphasized that they are working on a seawater desalination project, saying, “The capacity of the Mumcular Dam is currently very low. It has almost reached its dead storage volume.
Water cannot be supplied from here for Bodrum's water needs. We are trying to meet Bodrum's water needs only from the Geyik Dam and the Sazköy and Çamköy water sources.
Our efforts to identify alternative water sources are ongoing. We are primarily working on the Ekinanbarı source and seawater desalination projects.
We have finalized both our financial resources and our projects, and we will begin the work. However, our water supply efforts are continuing to ensure that Bodrum's water needs are met to the maximum extent possible this summer,” he said.

Stating that they are working on new water sources to meet Bodrum's water needs, Mayor Aras said, “We have opened new wells and are striving to transport as much as needed from these wells to Bodrum. In addition, we are increasing the capacity of our existing drinking water treatment plant.
Thus, we will treat a higher volume of water from the Geyik Dam. Identification studies regarding the faulty pipes are also being revealed through reports prepared by both Istanbul Technical University and our own team members.
In particular, the issues causing bursts in the operation of the lines are being identified, and efforts are being made to resolve them. The replacement of the lines that constantly burst is now on the agenda, and once the summer season is over, the relocation and renewal of the routes where the lines pass will be considered,” he said.
