One of two suspects who posted about a dormitory student being sexually assaulted has been arrested
In Mersin, one of two suspects detained for allegedly making baseless social media posts claiming that 'a female student at the Mersin KYK Girls' Dormitory was forced into a vehicle and sexually assaulted' has been arrested, while arrest warrants have been issued for 4 others.

According to the information obtained, posts were made 2 days ago on certain social media accounts claiming that 'a female student was forced into a vehicle and sexually assaulted' at the KYK Girls' Dormitory in the Çiftlikköy neighborhood of the central Yenişehir district.
Following the posts, female students gathered in front of the dormitory the previous night and held a protest march.
Upon investigating the allegations, police teams determined that no such incident had occurred as claimed on social media platforms, and that there were no victims or complaints regarding the matter.
MERSİN CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION
In line with the information obtained, the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the accounts that made the social media posts under the crime of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' pursuant to Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code.
Necessary legal action was taken against the social media accounts identified as having created and spread false news, and 2 suspects were detained.
After their procedures at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse; one of them, Y.A., was arrested, while the other was released under 'judicial control' conditions. An arrest warrant has been issued for 4 other suspects in connection with the incident.
