Primary school teacher abuses 19 students: 465 years in prison
A teacher who was previously sentenced to 636 years in prison for sexually abusing 28 students while working at a primary school in Antalya, and whose verdict was partially overturned by the Court of Cassation, has been sentenced to a total of 465 years and 9 months in prison for the abuse of 19 children in the retrial.

A new verdict has been announced in the trial of Mahmut Aydın K., a teacher who was arrested 8 years ago on charges of aggravated sexual abuse against his students at a primary school in the Kepez district. In the first trial, where he was tried for charges involving 28 students, Mahmut Aydın K. was sentenced by the Antalya 6th High Criminal Court to a total of 621 years for 27 children and 15 years for one student, totaling 636 years in prison, without any sentence reductions. He was also banned from the teaching profession.
During the appellate review of the verdict, the Court of Cassation's 9th Criminal Chamber overturned the case after identifying a lack of reports regarding 6 children and "legal irregularities and insufficient evidence that would affect the verdict" regarding 12 children. The retrial for the 6 children with missing reports was merged with the case file of the 12 children returned by the Court of Cassation.
Defendant Mahmut Aydın K. attended the hearing at the Antalya 6th High Criminal Court via SEGBİS, while lawyers for the parties and many parents of the victimized children were present in the courtroom.
In the hearing, defendant Mahmut Aydın K. reiterated his previous defenses, stating that he did not accept the allegations against him, that he joined his lawyers' request for release, and that he had nothing to say regarding the Regional Court of Justice's partial reversal decision. The families, in their joint statement, indicated that they maintained their complaints.
The court panel, having re-evaluated the case for the 19 children following the merger of the files, convicted defendant Mahmut Aydın K. of "aggravated sexual abuse of children" and various other crimes.
The defendant was sentenced to 30 years each for 12 students, 16 years, 10 months, and 15 days each for 4 students, 18 years and 9 months for one student, 13 years and 6 months for one student, and 6 years for one student, resulting in a total sentence of 465 years and 9 months. Thus, the court finalized the new conviction decision, which corresponds to approximately 500 years.
