Reaction from 'void' CHP after Menderes elections: 'Get used to losing'

In İzmir's Menderes district, People's Alliance candidate Asuman Şen won the deputy mayoral election held following the arrest of Mayor İlkay Çiçek. The election, which took place in the 31-member Menderes Municipal Council, resulted in tension and political disputes.
The fact that AKP's Şen was elected deputy mayor in a council where the New Party and CHP members hold the majority drew reactions, particularly from the New Party front. It was also reported that a fistfight broke out between AKP and New Party members during the election.
ALLEGATIONS OF A DEAL FROM THE NEW PARTY
Making a statement after the election, New Party İzmir Provincial Chair Çağatay Güç harshly criticized the administration that took office following the "absolute void" process in the CHP. Güç claimed that the result in Menderes was part of a previously reached political agreement.
They gave Menderes in exchange for Etimesgut. They had agreed on this from the start. The void administration has made a deal with the AKP. The stance of the void administration has become clear. The void administration has openly declared that it is in the People's Alliance.
GÜMRÜKÇÜ: GET USED TO LOSING
CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Utku Gümrükçü responded to the accusations from the New Party. Defending that the criticisms were unfair, Gümrükçü pointed to the process of candidate selection and requesting support.

There were 31 members in the Menderes Municipal Council following the March 31 local elections. After the arrest of 3 CHP council members as part of the municipal operation, the current composition included 9 New Party members, 6 CHP members, 10 AKP members, and 1 MHP member.
While the deputy mayoral election is expected to reopen the debate on political balances and the arithmetic in the municipal council, the scuffle and mutual accusations have become the main headline of the Menderes agenda.
