The fire broke out at the Başol Recycling Facility located on 4216 Street in the İstiklal neighborhood. According to the information obtained, a dispute allegedly broke out between two groups at the plastic and paper recycling facility owned by an individual named Ramazan Çağlayan (38).
As the argument turned into a fight, the parties were separated by the intervention of their relatives; however, it is alleged that immediately after the incident, the opposing side set the facility's yard on fire, committing arson. The paper and plastic bales, which caught fire in a short time, turned into a fireball within minutes, and the facility owners reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.
Upon the report, police, medical, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene. While the fire brigade teams that arrived at the scene in a short time intervened in the fire, citizens in the vicinity also intervened with excavators. As the teams fought the flames for hours, facility operator Ramazan Çağlayan stated that the incident was arson and that the facility was deliberately set on fire.
While the fire was completely extinguished after a 3-hour effort, teams from the Provincial Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation Branch conducted a detailed examination of the incident. Following the investigations, an inquiry was launched into the incident by the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Tons of recycling materials were reduced to ashes in the fire.
