The attack on the Buca Municipality greenhouse located in the Söğüt area was carried out by unidentified individuals who added salt to the greenhouse's water tank. This situation damaged the plant roots and led to a large-scale loss of produce.
Mayor Görkem Duman visited the greenhouse, received information from the Director of Agricultural Services, Mustafa Görgün, and characterized the incident as a "treacherous attack on the tables of the people of Buca."
Mayor Duman stated that the greenhouse will continue production and that such attacks will not hinder their efforts.
"We will double the size of our greenhouse and expand our product range. We know that the path we have taken is a very sacred one," said Duman, emphasizing that they will continue to offer affordable menus to citizens through the Kent Lokantaları.
Stating that they planned to harvest 10 tons of produce throughout the season thanks to vertical farming practices, Duman expressed that the greenhouse suffered significant damage after the attack and that they incurred a loss of 1.5 million liras. He noted that while 2.5 tons of produce had been harvested to date, the majority of the targeted 7.5 tons of produce was damaged.
While a portion of the green beans produced in the greenhouse was used in the district's Kent Lokantaları, the rest was being utilized through a barter system. Duman said, "We were planning to subsidize the vegetables and fruits we would use in the Kent Lokantaları for the next 6 months by bartering our products. We are very saddened."
