The life of Gülbeyaz Çelikdemir, a mother of two living in Sivas, was turned upside down due to an incident that occurred 2 years ago. Two years ago, Çelikdemir went to the Cumhuriyet University Dental Hospital complaining of a toothache, where she was directed to a private dental clinic by a person she believed to be a doctor, with the promise that "things take too long here, we can handle it faster outside."

Çelikdemir later learned that Y.İ., who had approached her in the patient chair, was not a doctor but an implant salesman. At the private clinic owned by A.D., where Çelikdemir was taken, 25 of her teeth were extracted at once. 8 implants were then placed in her mouth by H.Ö., a doctor from the hospital. After the implants were placed, Çelikdemir's health problems never ended.

Inflammation formed in her jaw, her gums receded, and she underwent two separate operations on her mouth. Because she had to consume only liquid foods for 2 years, health problems began to emerge in her intestines. When she went to the private dental clinic to have the implants removed, she was asked to pay an additional fee to remove the implants, which she could never use and on which teeth could not be attached.

She took the matter to court

Gülbeyaz Çelikdemir, who lost both all her teeth and her health during a treatment process that began with a toothache, took the matter to court. In the lawsuit she filed at the Ankara 16th Civil Court of Peace, Çelikdemir filed a complaint against Y.İ., A.D., and H.Ö. During the court process, Çelikdemir continues to live with the implants fixed in her mouth that have no teeth on them, so that the evidence is not destroyed.

"I experienced many health problems after the implants were placed"

Stating that she experienced many health problems after the implants were placed, Çelikdemir said, "My problem started in 2024. I applied to Cumhuriyet University due to my dental discomfort. During the examination there, an implant was suggested. After the examination, it was decided to have implants done. A few days later, while I was thinking that I would have it done at the university, I was persuaded by the person whose name I learned later in the university garden and directed to a private clinic. I met this person at the university hospital and recognized him as a doctor. He convinced me by saying that they had a clinic outside and that things would take a long time at the university. After a day was set, they called and I went to the clinic. After going to the clinic, all my teeth, 25 of my teeth, were extracted in one day. Implants were placed. Normally, three of my teeth were aching. 25 were extracted. I have been having problems since the day the implants were placed, and my health problems have increased. A mass formed between my esophagus and windpipe. I became a hyperthyroidism patient. I am having intestinal problems. I constantly have infections in my lower jaw," she said.

"They said the problems were psychological"

Expressing that when she applied to the private dental clinic regarding the problems she was experiencing, she was told that her problems were psychological, Çelikdemir said, "When I told them that there was a mistake and that there was a problem with the implants, they told me that I was feeling that way psychologically. They told me to wait three months, I waited three months, and I went again. This time, they took tissue from the upper palate in the upper jaw and grafted it to the lower jaw, but the graft did not take. I told them that the procedure had gone wrong. I asked them to refund my money. I told them I did not trust them. They neither refunded my money nor fixed the problem," she said.

"The expert witness prepared a report without examining me"

Stating that she is facing a second grievance during the judicial process, Çelikdemir said, "I took the matter to court. At this stage, just as the individuals tired me out, the judiciary also tired me out. We requested a report, but the expert witness, who is their colleague, resisted giving a report. We requested an expert committee, and the committee prepared a report in my absence without examining me. The biggest evidence is here, the biggest evidence is my devastated jaw; how can they give a report without seeing me?" she said.

The woman, who is going through difficult days, stated that she spent 36 quarter gold coins to have the implants placed, and that when she went to have them removed, she was asked for an additional fee of 12 thousand TL, and expressed that she is waiting for justice to be served. Çelikdemir added that she could not have any other procedure done on her mouth so that the evidence would not be obscured, and that she had to feed on liquid foods without any teeth in her mouth throughout the judicial process.
