Significant increase in passenger traffic at border gates in Edirne

Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer stated that passenger traffic at the border gates opening to Europe has increased by 15 percent compared to last year.

Governor Sezer stated at a meeting held in the Governor's Office Meeting Hall regarding public order incidents that there is a high volume of vehicle and passenger entries at the border gates.

Underlining that traffic at the border gates concerns many issues ranging from trade to public order, Sezer emphasized that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent any potential negative incidents.

Pointing out that passenger traffic has been increasing day by day since the beginning of the year, Sezer said, "Compared to the first four months of last year, there is a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic this year. While there were 3 million 268 thousand passenger entries and exits last year, 3 million 758 thousand 912 passengers used the gates this year. An average of 31 thousand passengers enter and exit through the border gates daily. This average rose slightly in April. In April, there were a total of 1 million 141 thousand 600 passenger entries and exits, with 38 thousand passengers entering and exiting daily."

Pointing out that vehicle traffic at the border gates has also increased, Sezer stated, "While 1 million 395 thousand vehicles entered and exited in the first four months of last year, 1 million 534 thousand 753 vehicles entered and exited in the same period this year. This year, there has been a daily average of 12 thousand 600 vehicle entries and exits. This number showed an increase in April. In April, this number reached 13 thousand 920."
