Storm and rain gripping Ankara claim a life

In the capital, a woman who took shelter under a sign while trying to escape the heavy rainfall that began in the evening hours lost her life, and 1 person was injured.

According to the information received, as a thunderstorm was effective in the capital around 21:30, 2 people who wanted to protect themselves from the rain on Alparslan Street in the Menderes neighborhood of Sincan district took shelter under a 10-meter by 5-meter sign.

The sign, which was torn from its place due to the effect of the storm, fell on the 2 people who had taken shelter while fleeing the rain. Upon the notification of citizens, health, police, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene.

While health teams determined that a woman named Ayşe Yavuz (20) had lost her life at the scene, the other injured person was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

VEHICLES STRANDED ON THE ROAD WERE REMOVED WITH THE HELP OF A TOW TRUCK

Due to the heavy rainfall, a road collapse occurred again on Şehit Cem Ersever Street in the Demetgül neighborhood of Yenimahalle, where a road collapse had been seen before.

Those caught outside by the downpour waited for the rain to stop in indoor areas.

Power outages occurred in the western parts of Ankara due to heavy rainfall and lightning strikes.

AFAD and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality teams carried out evacuation work in some flooded areas.

In some places, citizens tried to clean the flooded areas with their own means.
