Tension at Toroslar Council caught on camera: Tensions rise among council members

Footage regarding the tension that occurred during the Toroslar Municipality's July council meeting held on July 1 has emerged in Mersin. In the footage, it is seen that after the session ended, CHP Toroslar Mayor Abdurrahman Yıldız headed toward the section where AKP Council Member Mehmet Özkan was located, and those who intervened separated the parties.

An argument broke out in the hall after AKP Council Member Mehmet Özkan, who took the floor during the wishes and requests section of the meeting, directed criticisms regarding the municipality's direct procurement tenders, certain municipal practices, and allegations of layoffs.

It was reported that during the argument, Mayor Yıldız turned off Özkan's microphone, then said, "Who are you, sit down, you rude man, be quiet," and ended the session. The activity that took place after the session ended was reflected in the camera recordings.

The recordings also showed that journalist and council member Vahap Şehitoğlu, who wanted to record the events with his mobile phone, was attempted to be blocked by some DEM Party council members, and a scuffle ensued during this time.

Following the incident, it was learned that AKP Council Member Mehmet Özkan went to the Toroslar District Police Department and filed a criminal complaint against Mayor Abdurrahman Yıldız.
