The aftermath of a tribal wedding attended by six thousand people: 2 kilos of gold, 15 million TL

Ömer Işık, the son of Şehmuz Işık, a prominent leader of the Gevdan tribe in Van, married Mizgin Işık. At the wedding ceremony, which was attended by approximately 6,000 people from across the country and abroad, the bride was gifted 2 kilos of gold, and the groom received 15 million TL in cash gifts.

Tribal leaders, community elders, NGO heads, business people, and numerous guests attended the wedding, where 2 tons of meat dishes were served. At the end of the gift-giving ceremony, which lasted 4 hours and required about 20 people to count the money, the groom was presented with 15 million TL and the bride with 2 kilos of gold.

While the collected money was carried away in suitcases, hundreds of people performed traditional halay dances following the gift-giving ceremony.

Tıvorlu İsmail, a frequent figure on social media and television, also attended the wedding ceremony.

Speaking at the end of the wedding, the event's senior organizer and businessman Veysel Ürüm thanked everyone who attended.

Stating that money is not what matters, but rather unity and solidarity, the groom's father and Gevdan tribe leader Şehmuz Işık said, “I am honored to see you, our dear friends, among us. Money is not important; what matters is your presence and your friendship. I am grateful to all of you for sharing in our unity and solidarity. The money collected during the gift-giving ceremony represents the mutual aid and solidarity between tribes.”

The groom's brother, Cigerhun Işık, who noted that 15 million TL was gifted to the groom, said, “We would like to thank all our friends who attended our wedding from near and far, and from abroad. Approximately 6,000 guests attended our wedding. We slaughtered 2 tons of meat, consisting of small livestock. About 15 million TL was gifted to our groom. The bride was also gifted 2 kilos of gold.”
