MAUN Disaster Management Application and Research Center Director Dr. Faculty Member İskender Dölek stated that as a result of the examinations, the substance was polyurethane, saying, “The white substance of unknown nature and content that reached the ground with the hailstorm 3 days ago in Muş, covering the streets and avenues, had caused concern among the public. With the examination conducted at MAUN laboratories, it was understood that the origin of the material was a polyurethane material.
We can say that it is used as a plastic raw material. It likely dried in the region or near the region and mixed into the atmosphere with air currents. It was carried kilometers away from where it was located by air currents. Materials carried kilometers away from their source in the past, and even events described by the public as ‘it rained soil, it rained mud, or it rained frogs from the sky,’ show a similar nature. At the very least, it is possible to state that there is no situation to worry about,” he said.
Explaining the initial work he carried out in the laboratory, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz said, “In the initial examinations we conducted following the falling of certain objects with the hailstorm in recent days, it is seen that these are plastic.
They can be fully identified with further technical analyses and more detailed research,” he stated.
