Turkey's oldest province has been identified

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Sinop was the province with the highest proportion of elderly population in Turkey in 2024, at 20.8 percent.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its 2024 Statistics on the Elderly data. According to the data, the elderly population ratio in Sinop was determined to be 20.8 percent in 2024.

Sinop was followed by Kastamonu with 20.2 percent and Giresun with 19.1 percent. The provinces with the lowest elderly population ratios in Turkey were Şırnak with 3.7 percent, Hakkari with 4.3 percent, and Şanlıurfa with 4.4 percent.

The elderly population ratio in Sinop was calculated as 19.4 percent for men and 22.3 percent for women. In Kastamonu, this ratio was 18.2 percent for men and 22.2 percent for women, while in Çankırı, it was recorded as 16.0 percent for men and 19.4 percent for women.
