Vehicle carrying expert team plunges into ravine in Sason! 5 people lost their lives

The accident occurred in the afternoon at the foothills of Mount Mereto in the Sason district. The car, which was carrying 5 people and returning from an inspection of the Virgin Mary Church—the subject of a lawsuit—collided with a car in front carrying judges and plunged into a ravine.

Upon notification, health, AFAD, gendarmerie, and fire department teams were dispatched to the region. It was determined that 4 people had lost their lives at the scene. One person, who was in critical condition, could not be saved at the Sason State Hospital, where they had been transported.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

While an investigation into the incident has been launched, the governor's office issued a statement regarding the accident.

The statement said, "Upon the report of a traffic accident that occurred in the Sason district of our province on 23.06.2025 at approximately 14:10, our teams immediately arrived at the scene. It has been understood that the vehicle carrying the expert team, which was accompanying the court delegation going to the inspection area for judicial inspection procedures within the scope of an annulment case filed at the Administrative Court, had an accident on the way back. It has been determined that 5 of our citizens lost their lives in the traffic accident. Our gendarmerie, AFAD, and all relevant teams are continuing the necessary examinations and investigations at the scene. We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives, and patience and condolences to their grieving families."
