Fratricide in Esenyurt: First killed his brother, then locked himself in the house with his children
In Istanbul's Esenyurt district, a man who shot and killed his brother following an argument in the middle of the street locked himself in his home with his children.

The incident occurred around 22:30 on 641st Street in the Sultaniye neighborhood of Istanbul's Esenyurt district. According to the information obtained, İlhan Sapil (43), who was reported to have psychological issues, had an argument with his brother, Barış Sapil (40).
As the argument escalated quickly, the older brother, İlhan Sapil, fired multiple shots at his brother with a firearm he was carrying. After opening fire, İlhan Sapil fled to his home on the same street and locked himself inside with his children.
Upon notification, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the street. Barış Sapil, who was critically wounded with 4 gunshot wounds to his body, was taken to the hospital by ambulance after initial intervention, but could not be saved despite all efforts and lost his life.
SURRENDERED WITH HIS WEAPON
İlhan Sapil, who locked himself in his apartment on the third floor of the 4-story building where he lived with his children, refused to surrender, leading to the deployment of special operations teams to the street.
Security forces took extensive security measures on the street. Following the efforts of the teams, Sapil, who was persuaded to surrender, tied his weapon in a bag and lowered it down with a rope, handing it over to the police teams.
Following the intervention of the special operations teams, Sapil was taken into custody and brought to the police station. Crime scene investigation teams also arrived on the street to conduct an examination.
