According to the information received, B.G. (45), who is reported to have psychological issues, entered the emergency department of the Necip Fazıl City Hospital Obstetrics and Pediatrics Annex Building with a pump-action shotgun.
The suspect, who threatened healthcare workers with the shotgun in her hand, was neutralized through the intervention of a security guard.
Police teams arrived at the scene upon notification and took the suspect into custody.
Healthcare workers experienced moments of terror during the suspect's attempted attack.
The suspect's processing at the police station is ongoing.
Meanwhile, a healthcare worker recorded the moment of the incident with a mobile phone.
The footage shows healthcare workers hiding under desks, the suspect shouting at the staff, and the security guard neutralizing the suspect.
Birgül G., who was handed over to the police teams arriving at the hospital, was taken into custody. The woman, who was taken to the police station, stated in her interrogation that her intention was not to harm anyone.
"I WANTED TO COMMIT SUICIDE BUT COULD NOT"
Stating that she had been suffering for years due to her drug-addicted son and had fallen into a depression because of this, Birgül G. said, "I could no longer bear my son's torment and wanted to commit suicide, but I could not. I had no intention of harming anyone. I did not go there to shoot anyone. I went to the hospital thinking that if someone saw the gun in my hand, perhaps they would kill me."
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH
The Ministry of Health announced that it would personally follow the process regarding the individual who entered a hospital in Kahramanmaraş with a pump-action shotgun and threatened healthcare workers, and who has since been taken into custody.
In a statement made on the Ministry's social media account under the heading "Zero tolerance for violence," it was recalled that the suspect was taken into custody following the incident that occurred at the Necip Fazıl City Hospital Obstetrics and Pediatrics Annex Building Emergency Department.
The statement noted the following:
"As the Ministry of Health, we will personally follow the process. We convey our best wishes to our healthcare workers on duty at the hospital. Healthcare workers are dedicated people who distribute healing and try to be a remedy for ailments. As the Ministry of Health, we have no tolerance for violence."
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
In a written statement from the Kahramanmaraş Governor's Office, it was recalled that a woman attempted an attack with a pump-action shotgun inside the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
The statement noted the following:
"The woman, identified as B.G., a Turkish citizen born in 1979, who attempted an attack inside the hospital by stating that there was a bomb device in the package she was holding, was neutralized by security forces who arrived at the scene. Upon observation by the teams, it was determined that the paper bag mentioned by the individual was transparent and empty. In the investigation conducted regarding the individual and in her statement, she declared that she was receiving psychiatric treatment, that she did not feel well, that her intention was to harm herself, and that she chose the hospital because it was close to her residence. No citizens or healthcare workers were harmed in the hospital due to the incident. The individual has been taken into custody and will be referred to the courthouse following the investigation."
